1 tablespoon of water and veg oil

DIRECTIONS

marinate the beef with all ingredients for 1/2 hr

put the marinated beef with all ingredients to the HIGH HEAT pan & stir-fried for 3-5 mins depending on how rare or well done u want it. I did mine about 5 mins.

Sprinkle some green onions and Voila! ENJOY! though this is not Burmese dish, I love a good steak dish and this is Asian style steak stir fried. we don’t really eat steak in Burma as it is often very expensive and its just not our culture. The meat that we eat often is chicken and pork generally and we do have a beef curry dish that we serve along with all other curries.

WHY Burmese people don’t eat BEEF

Burmese people, particularly the majority of the Burmese population, who are Theravada Buddhists, generally do not consume beef due to religious and cultural reasons. Here are some of the key factors explaining why beef is avoided by many Burmese:

  1. Theravada Buddhism: Theravada Buddhism is the predominant religion in Myanmar, and its followers adhere to certain precepts and guidelines related to their diet. One of the Five Precepts in Buddhism is refraining from taking the life of sentient beings, which includes abstaining from killing animals. While Theravada Buddhism doesn’t strictly forbid the consumption of meat, many Buddhists in Myanmar choose to avoid beef because cattle are commonly used for labor in agriculture, and there is a concern that consuming beef could indirectly involve killing animals.
  2. Cultural Traditions: Myanmar has a long history of abstaining from beef consumption, and this tradition has been passed down through generations. Cattle are highly regarded in Burmese society and are often used for agricultural purposes, transportation, and as a symbol of prosperity. As such, eating beef is culturally discouraged.
  3. Community and Respect: Myanmar is a diverse country with various ethnic groups and religious beliefs. In order to maintain harmony and respect among different communities, those who do not consume beef may refrain from doing so in public or communal settings, out of consideration for the beliefs and practices of others.
  4. Availability of Alternatives: Myanmar’s cuisine is rich in other protein sources, such as pork, chicken, seafood, and tofu. There are plenty of non-beef options available, and Burmese cuisine has developed an array of flavorful and diverse dishes using these alternatives.

It’s important to note that while a significant portion of the population in Myanmar, particularly Theravada Buddhists, avoids beef, there are other communities, such as some ethnic minority groups, who do consume beef and other types of meat. Dietary choices can vary widely across the country, and individual preferences and practices may differ from person to person.
